Diaries of Samuel M. Irvin [microform], 1841-1849.

This diary was written by Samuel M. Irvin, and it contains a great number of details surrounding his activities during the period from January 1841 through February 1849. During the period covered in the diary, Irvin worked as the principal missionary at the Iowa, Sac and Fox Presbyterian Mission near Highland, Kan., and near the Sac & Fox Indian Reservation (in the area of present White Cloud, Kan.) As a result, Irvin's diary discusses his duties in that capacity, as well as his day-to-day activities on the frontier. Entries are intermittent; a statement of the periods covered and a typescript are filed with the original. Entries for 1849 appear after those for 1845. Robert Robitaille, Indian trader; William P. Richardson, Great Nemaha subagent; and Liberty, Mo., are mentioned.

Reference copy: 1 microfilm reel (192 images); 35 mm.Original: 365 p.
